Meet the SDA Faculty
RICHARD KIM (Co-Owner/Director)
During his time as an amateur dancer and pianist, Richard went through the graded examination system with the BATD and the Royal Conservatory of Music. After high school, Richard was accepted into the BFA program in Dance at Juilliard School of Fine Arts in New York City. It was during this time at the Juilliard School, where he began his serious training and studies in classical and modern dance.
After being scouted and signed by Los Angeles dance agent Julie McDonald, Richard relocated to Hollywood to pursue his professional commercial dance career. During this time, he was fortunate to have worked with Tony and Emmy Award winning director/choreographers Rob Marshall, Wayne Cilento, Jerry Mitchell, Kenny Ortega, Adam Shankman, Marguerite Derricks, Jerry Evans, Liz Imperio, Frank Gatson and Travis Payne.
Richard’s performance career involved world concert tours, television, film, national commercials, music video, industrials and other live stage events. Career highlights include; Gloria Estefan’s World Tour (2yrs), Reba McEntire’s North American Tour (2yrs), performances with Michael Jackson, the Academy Awards, American Music Awards, Comedy Hall of Fame, Whitney Houston’s Cinderella, HBO’s And The Band Played On, Batman & Robin, She’s All That and national commercials for Frito-Lay, Levis and Mastercard Gold.
In addition to his career as a dancer, he also travelled the globe extensively as a guest teacher/ choreographer working for such organizations as; SkateCanada, SkateOntario, Randolph Academy, Broadway Dance Center Tokyo and Triple Threat Coventions. As a national level adjudicator, Richard has sat on the panels of such competitions as; University Dance Challenge, Bedazzled, Terpischore, Dance Masters, America Dance Awards, Kids Artistic Revue, Showstopper and Hall of Fame.
MATTHEW CARUSO (Co-Owner/Director)
Recreational & Competitive Program
Matthew is a member of the British Association of Teachers of Dance (BATD), having received his diplomas in jazz, tap and ballet. In Toronto, he worked on various live stage shows, video and film projects including Mastercard, Bell Mobility, Hillary Duff and the film “Hairspray”. Having worked with several studios in Ontario, Matthew is a respected teacher and is often recognized for his innovative choreography. His students have received many awards from the most respected dance organizations across North America and have been National Champions. Matthew strives to inspire young dancers with his enthusiasm and passion for dance.
CHRISTINE BRUNET
Recreational, Competitive & Adult Program
Chri stine has been the owner operator of DanceWorks from 1989–2010. She is a full member of the CDTA and BATD and a Performing Arts Graduate from Claude Watson Performing Arts school in Toronto with a major in Dance. An integral part of the Early Years Challenge Program, Christine assisted in introducing dance eduation back into the school systems. As a Freelance teacher/choreographer, she also enjoys adjudicating and most importantly seeing the confidence built in our young children as they develop their love of dance. Christine is so pleased to be working with Richard and Matthew and looks forward to many more years of continued dance excellence.
KIM PRESCOTT
Recreational & Competitive Program
SCORCH Training
Kim works with our BobCats Hockey Team Fitness Program, providing strength and conditioning classes for them. She also works with our Adult Pilates students.
MARNI KAY
Recreational Program
Marni works with our youngest Recreational students. Being a teacher within the school board as well, Miss Marni’s love of children shows as she introduces dance to our rising stars!
PAMELA ROBINS
Recreational, Competitve & Adult Program
Pam is an Associate with the British Association of Teachers of Dance (BATD). She has studied at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Teachers Training Program in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has taught ballet, tap, and jazz to preschool, recreational, adult and young competitve students for over twenty years. Pamela also works with figure skaters and coaches gymnastics.
