Recreational, adult and competitive students from Studio Dance Arts dazzeld an audience of over 1660 people during its annual recital - SDA Live!
Held at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre on June 19 & 20, 2010 and hosted by Timothy Murphy and Jeff McNeice, SDA showcased its nationally award winning dance students in a stellar production filled with special lighting, video-projection and pyrotechnics!
The show featured special guest performers Johnny McMillan (former SDA Co. member and Interlochen Academy graduate), as well as the students from Dance Works Elliot Lake - SDA's NEW 2nd location!

The SDA Company recently returned from the Showstopper American Dance Championships in Chicago.

HALL OF FAME DETROIT RESULTS

The SDA Competitive Team recently competed at the prestigious Hall Of Fame Dance Challenge in Detroit.
With approximately 20 studios and close to 900 entries involved, SDA once again put Sault Ste. Marie on the map and walked away with numerous awards and recognition.
All of SDA's FullTime Co. routines were entered into the American (most advanced Elite) League of competition.
RESULTS
Medal Standings (SDA had 54 total entries)
- 49 Platinum (a total average score of 95+ needed)
- 4 High Gold (a total average score of 92.7-94.9 needed)
- 1 Gold (a total average score of 90-92.6 needed)
- All SDA team routines received Platinum!

NUVO DETROIT

Several SDA students travelled to Detroit, MI recently to attend the NUVO Convention & Competition held at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn.
Hundreds of students throughout Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Ontario, Canada participated in master classes and auditions held by industry professionals from Los Angeles and NYC.
A competition was also held, judged by the NUVO faculty.
SDA routine "Stand There" won 3rd Overall High Score Senior Groups.
"Turn To Stone" was chosen by the faculty as their STUDIO PICK award winner and had the honour of performing in the Closing Night Faculty Show.
Several scholarhips were awarded by the faculty to students that stood out throughout the weekend seminar, excelling in a particular dance style.
Congratulations SDA Stand Out Scholarship winners; Madeline Foster (for jazz), Melina Killoran (for hiphop) and Dana Hinding (for ballet).
Congratulations also to SDA High Gold award recipients; Lydia Heimonen, Laura Tomie & Stephanie Dagenais.

SUCCESSFUL NATIONAL BALLET SCHOOL AUDITIONS

The National Ballet School of Canada made a stop in Sault Ste. Marie during its 09/10 Audition Tour, giving workshop classes and conducting auditions.
Several SDA students had the wonderful opportunity of participating in the Open Classes, as well as auditioning for the NBS Summer Program.
CONGRATULATIONS to SDA Co. dancers Kristin DeAmorim and Nasya Rouse for their successful auditions! They were honored to be two of three students in their age category to be accepted by the prestigious school during its Audition Tour stop in Sault Ste. Marie.

Dance students from SDA's Intensive program recently returned from a weekend workshop held at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago.
Approximatey sixteen SDA dancers and three faculty members had the exciting opportunity to study with dancer/teacher/choreographers from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!
Coastal Dance Rage Conventions, under the direction of Shannon Mather, brought master class teachers Sonya Tayeh, Twitch, Benji Schwimmer, Tokyo and Blake McGrath to the McCormick Place Convention Center for two days of inspiring classes in jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hiphop, ballroom and jazz funk.
Great weekend and great way to start the dance season!

SDA WINS 2009 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

This past July 2009, over sixty competitive SDA dancers and their families travelled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete at the prestigious Showstopper American Dance Championships EAST COAST NATIONAL FINALS!
This week long event held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center had over two thousand routines entered from over seventy five dance studios representing such states as the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, New England, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Canada.
After several days of semi-final competition, the SDA Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior Companies all qualified to re-compete in the TOP 10 DANCE-OFF for national honours and the chance to be crowned National Champions.
After giving a stellar performance, the ten judge panel gave the nod and crowned Studio Dance Arts the 2009 JUNIOR NATIONAL GRAND CHAMPIONS!
What a great debut on the national stage!
Congratulations to the entire SDA Company on being TOP 10 FINALISTS!
We are so proud of each and every one of you for representing Sault Ste. Marie with such class & style.
