RAD Ballet Exams
Studio Dance Arts is Sault Ste. Marie's first registered school able to offer the globally recognized and respected RAD Ballet Exams.
The RAD Society is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organizations in the world with over 15,500 members in more than 82 countries. This progressive examination syllabus is taught to over a quarter of a million students worldwide.
RAD is one of the most commonly used classical ballet syllabi in professional academies and college dance programs throughout Canada and the US. The National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto, recognizing the benefits and global reach of the RAD Society, introduced the syllabus to its Teachers Training Course in 1996.
In 2002, RAD successfully spearheaded an appeal to the Ministry of Education to allow dance to be recognized. Now all eligible Ontario students of RAD can apply for two credits, one in Grade 10 and again in Grade 12. This procedure is called Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.
SDA RAD students have successfully challenged and gained these school credits utilizing PLAR.
Participation in the RAD Exam system is possible only through officially registered and certified RAD teachers and schools.
